Client Portals
Each client in Lantern gets access to their own portal — a separate, login-protected area where they can view their issues, submit new ones, and communicate with your team.
#What the client portal includes
When a client logs into their portal, they can:
- View all issues submitted for their project
- See the current status and priority of each issue
- Read comments from your team (when marked visible to client)
- Reply to comments
- Submit new issues directly
- Receive email notifications on updates
Clients cannot see issues for other clients, internal notes, or your team workspace.
#Inviting clients to the portal
Clients access the portal via invitation. To invite a client user:
- Go to Clients in your team workspace.
- Open the client.
- Go to the Users tab.
- Click Invite user.
- Enter their email address and choose a role:
- Admin — can manage other users in their organisation's portal
- Member — can view and submit issues
- Click Send invitation.
The invited person receives an email with a link to set up their account. The link expires after 7 days — if it expires, you can resend the invitation.
#Client user roles
| Role | Permissions |
|---|---|
| Admin | View issues, submit issues, reply to comments, manage portal users |
| Member | View issues, submit issues, reply to comments |
#What clients can see
Clients see all issues submitted for their project, including:
- Title, description, status, priority, category
- Comments marked as visible to client
- Attachments on issues and comments
- Status change history
Clients cannot see:
- Internal notes or comments marked as internal-only
- Other clients' issues
- Your team's internal workspace
#Deactivating client users
If a client user no longer needs access:
- Open the client from your workspace.
- Go to the Users tab.
- Find the user and select Deactivate.
Deactivated users cannot log in or receive notifications. Their history is preserved.
#Client portal login
Client users log into their portal at lanternhq.app using the email and password they set up during invitation. The portal shows only their client's issues.
#Real-time updates
The client portal updates in real time. When your team posts a comment or changes a status, the client sees it without needing to refresh the page.
#Email notifications for clients
Client users receive email notifications when:
- A comment visible to them is posted
- The status of one of their issues changes
- A team member assigns or updates an issue
Clients can turn off email notifications in their portal settings.
#Multiple contacts per client
You can invite multiple people from the same client — for example, a project manager and a developer. All invited users share the same client view. Admin-role users can also invite additional people themselves.
